Baby Boomers were beneficiaries of the hard work and courage of their
own parents, the so-called Greatest Generation. With European
manufacturing in ruins after World War II, America dominated the
world in job creation and standard of living. Houses were
inexpensive, food was plentiful, and families could be supported on
one income. But where Boomers rode on an ascendant middle class,
today Millennials inherit a world with skyrocketing education
expenses, a shrinking job market, and the threat of global climate
change.
Downward
mobility is increasingly the norm in the United States, a country
built on aspiration. And the millennial generation is pretty sick of
being told to pick themselves up by their bootstraps*, because that
worked for their parents.
According
to The New York Times, “’OK Boomer’ Marks the End of Friendly
Generational Relations …”Ok boomer” has become Generation
Z’s endlessly repeated retort to the problem of older people who just
don’t get it, a rallying cry for millions of fed up kids.” In this
same article, Gen-Z vendors of “OK Boomer” merchandise say they
plan to use the proceeds to pay off their debts.
Wear
this button while trespassing on other peoples’ lawns, while
explaining to your parents why you will never have kids, or while
eating avocado toast and browsing on your iPhone. Great for
